CAN ANYTHING GOOD COME OUT OF NORTH WEST PROVINCE?
The furore surrounding the nomination of Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to become the next Chief Justice has tempted me to play parody on St John’s words: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth” John 1: 46.

JULY, MEN’S MONTH
The month of July has come and gone without even being noticed as a month dedicated to men. In June there was so much talk about youth month and as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west there is going to be so much vibe by women in August. In some cases men will even be leading the way.
It is astonishing why men do not take themselves seriously when it comes to some issues.

WE BID FAREWELL TO ROYALTY
The United Christian Democratic Party learnt with great awe about the deaths of three Traditional Leaders in the space of a week, namely Kgosi Lucas Manyane Mabalane of the Baphiring Traditional Authority, Kgosi Tsiepe of the Balete Traditional Authority, both of the North West Province and King Maxhoba’ayakhawuleza Zanesizwe Sandile of the Eastern Cape.
It is a hard time for the tribes they were leading. The loss of a father in a family is something very difficult to live over but for a tribe or community is also very difficult as life sort of comes to a standstill.

A NEW AFRICAN STATE IS BORN
South Sudan was delivered into the world with great excitement on Saturday, 09 June 2011 to become the 54th state on the continent of Africa; but if we take into account Western Sahara the new kid on the block is 55th. South Sudan saw and attained her freedom after three decades of sweat and blood shed. The triumph of these Sudanese people is the result of skill and the never say die spirit to pursue self-determination.

NORTH WEST MUNICIPAL AUDITS 2009/2010
The shame hanging over the province is far from going away. If out of 24 municipalities only 10 (41, 6%) were able to submit their books for auditing by the Auditor General on time, this spells disaster. Of the 10, three received disclaimers, 5 qualified reports and the other 2 received financially unqualified reports with findings on predetermined objectives.
Of the three municipal entities in the province two, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Economic Agency (Pty) Ltd and the Rustenburg Water Services Trust submitted books for scrutiny on time. The Moses Kotane Development Agency failed to comply. The two that submitted received financially unqualified audits with findings.

WHAT IS CHRISTIAN DEMOCRACY?
As members of the United Christian Democratic Party, we ought to know that we have to: work, plan, decide, suffer and be happy together; in UNITY (as one).
What remains is that we should be sure that we in, unity, agree on what Christian Democracy is?

FREE REGULAR ELECTIONS
I am not a fan of communists, but there is one ardent communist who has left an impression on me, David Van Wyk. One wonders where this soul is nowadays.
Way back in 1994, when David wrote on holding regular elections and otherwise in the then government publication, Seipone/The Mirror, he stated that there is noting wrong if somebody is elected for the umpteenth time in the same leadership position provided that that organization holds regular, free and democratic elections.

EDUCATION NEEDS ATTENTION
After learning of the dismal showing by pupils in the Annual National Assessments results, we are tempted to reproduce the article we published in Politisweb of 20 July 2010 in which we sought to highlight that the education system followed in this country was never thoroughly researched for the needs of our children.
The results prove that education in the Foundation Phase of our schools system is down and out.

JUNE, THE YOUTH MONTH
I have, in this maiden article for weekly features, decided to write on the youth and look into their ability to lead.
It is unfortunate that this month saw two significant people Mama Albertina Sisulu and Prof Kader Asmal called to a better place.
