It is with the greatest sadness that I, on behalf of the United Christian Democratic Party, put on record our condolences regarding the final call of the former Deputy Minister Cheryl Gillwald.

As a champion of women’s rights, even as a junior minister, she has left this country a legacy in the programme on 16 days against violence on women and children.

The campaign has since been institutionalised in the psyche of the South African population.

Cheryl showed that she was a woman with substance. Her humility belied her determination and dogged belief in the strength of women.

May she find peace in the presence of her Maker.
